What the Scale Tells You
Static weight is the paddle’s weight at rest, usually listed in grams or ounces. Weigh your own paddle with its usual grip and accessories. Label that result as your playing setup so you do not confuse it with a catalog specification.
Why Equal Weights Can Feel Different
Swingweight describes resistance to swinging. Two paddles with the same scale weight can handle differently because of weight distribution. Higher swingweight takes more effort to accelerate.
What Twistweight Adds
Twistweight describes resistance to rotation around the paddle’s lengthwise axis. A higher value means more resistance to twisting on an off-center hit. Read it alongside swingweight rather than choosing the largest number automatically.
Compare measurements on equal terms
Before comparing two figures, check who measured them and how. A blank specification is a reason to ask the seller, not to estimate a value from a photograph.
- Match the full model name, shape and thickness.
- Keep units and measurement method consistent.
- Record whether the paddle has extra grip or edge weight.
- Separate a manufacturer’s stated range from a measurement of one sample.
Make a short trial useful
Use the same ball to compare soft shots near the net, volleys and returns. Note preparation time and grip comfort, then repeat later in the session.
