98 vs 100 In² Tennis Rackets: What to Compare

Tennis racket head and strings against a dark background

Compare head size with weight, string pattern and strings.

A Small Area Difference

The labels refer to head area in square inches. The actual response also depends on frame geometry, weight, string pattern and strings. A 100 is not automatically more powerful than every 98.

Compare the full specification

If possible, compare models with similar strung weight and swingweight. Otherwise it is hard to separate head-size differences from the rest of the design.

Watch ordinary contact

Pay attention to your typical rally ball and off-center contact. A demanding racket that rewards a perfect swing may not improve your average point.

Keep the string setup in view

Record string material, gauge and tension. Different setups can overwhelm the relatively small head-size difference. Choose the combination that gives you repeatable depth and direction.

Pure Aero 98 and Pure Drive 100

Pure Aero 98 Gen9 pairs its 98 in² head with a 305 g unstrung weight and a 16 × 20 pattern. Pure Drive Gen11 has a 100 in² head, weighs 300 g unstrung and uses 16 × 19. You are choosing between two complete setups: head size, weight and pattern all change.

Separate the area label from the demo result

Moving from 98 to 100 in² adds about 2% in head area. Try both with comparable strings and note rally depth, late returns and off-center contact.
